In Pine Ridge, Abner and grandpap had the idea to break into Squires home to take their incriminating letter. Today we learn more as Lum and Dick talk about the arrest.
Dick can’t believe that they would do such a thing, but Lum offers all the details of how they were caught, and taken in. It just isn’t clear to Lum or Dick what they were looking for. Lum phones around to see if Abner can be present when he meets with Squire to appeal to him that they meant no harm, and wasn’t after anything. Well, just that letter.
The charges must be considered fairly minor since Abner has been released from jail, and comes into the Jottem Down Store to tell a little about his experience, and how upset his wife, Lizabeth is with him. From what Abner is saying, Squire is playing his part to the hilt, and charging Abner with everything he can think of. All it does is give Squire more ammunition to force his way into the partnership in the movie theater.
Just like that, Squire’s scheme pays off, leaving Abner in an even bigger bind than before. What trap did the old storekeeper just sign his name to? Tune in next time to find out how Lum and Abner handle Squire’s latest power move!
