When a botany student reaching out for help brings a strange mystery involving rare orchids and murder, private investigator George Valentine and his assistant Brooksie step in to take the case.
The client and her husband are both World War II veterans attending college on the GI Bill. The situation turns tense, however, when their college-aged son becomes convinced that his mother is having an affair with her botany professor. As rumors spread across campus, George and Brooksie begin interviewing suspects. A series of suspicious “accidents” escalates rapidly until a corpse is discovered inside the university greenhouse, making the student’s husband and son the primary suspects.
Gathering all the key players inside the greenhouse for the final reveal, George lays out the clues to expose the true killer in classic detective fashion.
