Down in Pine Ridge, Squire Skimp is threatening legal action against Lum and Abner following an accident at their Planetarium movie theater. Local adviser Dick Huttleton suggests settling out of court, openly suspecting that Squire may be exaggerating his injuries.
Lum tries reasoning with Squire over the local party line while Abner chiming in with colorful commentary. When Squire drops by in person, he holds a critical piece of leverage over their heads—demanding a one-third partnership in the theater business or else he will use an incriminating letter they wrote against them in court.
