Lum and Abner – The Real Reason Why Abner Disappeared. 350802

Lum and Abner, going over the script.

Horlick’s: Travelers the world over have found Horlicks a handy aid against travel sickness and a satisfying way to stave off hunger while on the move.

Down in Pine Ridge, Abner has gone missing following threats from Squire Skimp and Snake Hogan, making them the prime suspects in his disappearance. Today, Dick Huddleston and Lum discuss Lizabeth, who has finally seen the light and realized the folly of her high-society ambitions. Blaming herself for Abner’s abduction, she desperately wants him back home.

Lum speculates that Abner left for a reason and might just be hiding out up in the mountains. Dick, however, maintains that Squire and Snake know exactly where Abner is. The sheriff previously went after Squire, but the silver-tongued salesman managed to talk his way off the hook—and even sold the sheriff a few shares of silver mine stock in the process! Lum mentions that a big-time silver mine mogul has offered Squire a sweet deal to buy out the mine. If the sale goes through, all the stockholders stand to make a fortune.

Grandpap stops by, and Lum can’t help but poke fun at the fancy duds Grandpap is still wearing. As the group ponders Abner’s disappearance and his fierce resistance to high-society life, evidence starts to suggest that Squire may not have had anything to do with Abner vanishing after all.

Just then, a big, flashy car pulls up outside. Is it the mogul coming to buy the silver mine? Lum marvels at the sleek style of the automobile and the sharp-dressed man stepping out. As Dick takes a closer look, the driver looks surprisingly familiar—it’s Abner!
