Hop Along Cassidy – Bullets for Ballots. ep18

The SI image depicts a Wild West scene where a man on horseback, dressed as a cowboy, points a gun towards a group of people near a “General Store.” The group is gathered around a ballot box labeled “Vote Here.” Some individuals appear alarmed or trying to protect the ballot box, while others flee or raise their arms in surrender. The background shows more riders galloping towards the scene, suggesting an intense confrontation during a voting event in a frontier town.

The usual election-time fanfare is missing as the time to choose a new sheriff arrives. Hoppy and California arrive to learn from Lem Purdy and his daughter about a crooked sheriff and how he has kept the town afraid to vote against him. He backs cattle rustlers, proves more ruthless than the outlaws he protects, and actively tampers with the ballot box. Hop Along agrees to side with Lem to run for sheriff, doing everything he can to ensure an honest election.

Though the sheriff is on his best behavior, he lets his henchmen run wild to bully honest citizens—including the local printer who produces a batch of campaign handbills for Lem. Things look as grim as possible when Lem’s general store is ransacked and the candidate himself is kidnapped, all while cattle rustling activity kicks into high gear. Can Hoppy stop the rustlers and henchmen, rescue Lem, and make sure he reaches the election in time? And above all, who is holding the ballot box? Get ready for fast riding and hard-fighting adventure right to the bitter end.
