Amos and Andy discuss the latest business venture that the Kingfish is pursuing. Having started a job agency, the Kingfish has been sending Andy less-than-ideal employment opportunities. When a potential secretary enters the office, Andy decides to hire her—despite needing a job himself.
On her first day, Andy outlines his expectations for his new secretary, hoping to mix a bit of romance with office work, but she proves to be a strict stickler for her duties. To afford his new secretary, Andy reluctantly agrees to a grueling job at the foundry. Making very little money, his only bright spots are the presence of Henrietta Davis and his hope that his secretary might eventually quit.
Seeking a loophole, Andy turns to his fast-talking legal friend, Gabby Gibson, hoping to prove he is not of “sound mind” to escape his contract. When the Kingfish insists he see a psychiatrist instead, Andy is left wondering how he will ever untangle himself from his employment obligations and his secretary’s contract.
