When Gildersleeve climbs up to the rooftop to clean leaves out of the gutters, his plans hit an immediate snag—there is zero water pressure to hose them down. After a tense exchange with his neighbor, Mr. Bullard, Gildersleeve calls the reservoir, only for Charlie to report that he is having trouble with the infamous “snifter” valve again.
Things go from bad to worse when Gildersleeve backs out of the driveway and collides directly with Mr. Bullard’s car. Seeking advice—strictly “for a friend”—he stops by the drugstore to talk to Mr. Peavy. The druggist asks him to deliver some medicine to the Bullard house, giving Gildersleeve a chance to make amends.
Expecting the worst, Gildersleeve panics when Judge Hooker drops by, convinced the visit means legal trouble over the accident. Once everyone calms down, the judge delivers surprising news about why Mr. Bullard was actually in shock. That leaves only one problem remaining: fixing that troublesome snifter valve!
