Lum and Abner – Lum Makes New Deal With Squire. 400322

Audio is a bit mushy. In the Jot ‘Em Down store, Lum and Abner talk about their upcoming movie. Squire pops in to talk about his taking over the store, and has the guys sign his 6-month contract to rent it. Since Abner made the original deal in haste, and since the store is a partnership, Lum wants the chance to renegotiate the deal with Squire.

The situation revolves around the movie company that will be shooting in town, and using the store as a scene in the film, they will be paying rent to Squire since he will be renting it from Lum and Abner. Not wanting to be outdone in the money-making process, Lum sets what he feels are high prices to rent his store, and by 1940 standards they are a little high for renting a business property.

The deal is done, and Lum is pleased with the big bucks that he’ll be making Squire fork over. Then grandpap enters, and our heroes learn that their charges are minimal compared to what Squire has charged the movie company.
