Jack Benny – Stanley And Livingstone. ep345, 391022

Jack Benny and Carmichael 1939.

Jack is teased about his cigar smoking habits. Mary enters to tell secrets on how tight Jack is, and how he shook down Dennis for loose change. Gearing up for their big dramatic production, Jack assigns parts. Dennis is late, and Jack dials Mrs. Day to chew her out. Phil plays, Are You Having Any Fun.

Dennis arrives, and his mom argues with Jack about having her son play a cannibal in the play. Kay Kaiser pops in to claim a missing cigarette case Jack laid claim to. Known for his College of Musical Knowledge, Jack grills Kaye on identifying the case, in the manner Kaye might do on his show. Dennis sings, South of the Border Down Mexico Way.

The play begins with Mary LaTouche fielding phone calls for Jack Stanley. Phil is the hardnosed news editor who threatens to fire Jack if he can’t find Livingstone. Dennis the native guide leads the way, along with his mom. Will the expedition ever find Livingstone?

Note: In Dennis Day’s third appearance, he finally gets tried out in a few more speaking lines. Not many more, but a few. The mention of Jack’s film, Man About Town, claims Rochester is the star. What else would you expect from a movie house in deepest, darkest Africa?
