Don greets Jack, with a big build up to start a new show in a new year. The gang review their new years celebrations. Jack and Mary were at Phil’s show in the Wiltshire Bowl, even if they had to sit far away. Mary tells the truth of it, and her embarrassment at Jack’s tux. He flubs his line as he defends himself. Phil is teased about leading the music on the Lum and Abner program. As Don whips up the commercial, Mary gets her poem ready. Goodbye 1938, Hello 1939. Phil plays, Say It With a Kiss.
Kenny Baker enters to tell about his late night of turning in at 10PM, and about going to the upcoming Rose Bowl game. Will Jack and Phil be betting on the outcome of the game? Before Kinny can sing, Rochester phones in to ask for time off to go to a wedding in Pasadena tomorrow. I don’t think Jack’s falling for the attempt at going to the football game. Kenny sings, I Promise You.
Jack tries to introduce the play, but the cast members each but in, and bicker. It’s the annual play to see out the old year. Jack is the old year, who’s lease is up, and has to move out soon. He and Mary, as Columbia, pack their things. In reviewing events, Andy Divine visits as old man Mars. With the stroke of midnight approaching, the new tenant arrives.
Parting words of advice is given, as the show wraps up.
Note: Phil calls Jack, Jackson, so jack calls Phil, Philson. Phil also uses big words like, atrocious.
