Jack Benny – Dennis Mother Visits. ep494, 431212

Jack Benny and Mary Livingstone on the set of their radio show in 1942.

Jack opens with a public service announcement to regulate unnecessary traveling to support the war effort.

Before the show starts, a confused audience member, Mel blanc, tries to figure out what show is going on. Ticket taker John brown tries to explain. Then Verna Felton, Dennis Day’s radio mom arrives to complain. Don finally announces the show.

Jack talks about his trip to Cairo that he took last Summer. Phil reminds Jack that Fred Allen is back on the air again. Naturally some comments follow to resurrect the old feud between jack and Fred. Mary is still out with laryngitis. Jack phones to check on Rochester, who claims to have a cold and sore throat. Could you tell?

Jack is informed that he has a crate to pick up. It’s his latest pet, the camel he bought in Egypt on his Summer USO tour. He can add it to his collection of a polar bear, turkey, and ostrich. Dennis sings, How Sweet You Are.

When Jack is complementary to Dennis, and talks with him, Verna Felton heckles Jack from the audience. The heckling escalates into a full blown argument with Verna up on stage, and Dennis heckling in the audience.

As an afterward, Mel and John Brown talk about how stingy Jack is.
