Casey, Crime Photographer – The Red Raincoat. 460829

an SI generated image shows a red raincoat draped over a bench against a brick wall. On the bench beside the coat are a vintage camera with a flash attachment and a black fedora hat. A newspaper lies near the bench with a headline about a photographer and a missing killer. The words "THE RED RAINCOAT" are illuminated on the wall above the bench. In the background, a shadowy figure wearing a hat and holding a camera stands in the rain under a streetlamp.

A woman in a striking red raincoat tries to duck out of the pouring rain, only to be gunned down in cold blood. Her killer flees into the dark alleyways, leaving behind few clues. Investigators soon identify the victim by her distinctive red coat, drawing out a gossipy witness with plenty of dirt to share about a twisted love affair.
However, upon closer inspection, the witness’s positive identification falls apart, completely rearranging the motives behind the murder. The only thing the police and Casey can figure is that the crime centers entirely on the red raincoat—but why? When the dead woman’s husband, Mr. Randal, is notified, suspicion immediately falls on him, as well as on their neighbor, Mr. Gilhorn, or his wife, who was the woman originally thought to be the target. A tangled tale of two loves emerges, leaving observant listeners piecing together the clues.
While Casey manages to snap some great shots for the newspaper, he begins to wonder if this open-and-shut case has really been solved. Heading over to the bar for a casual chat with girl reporter Ann Wilson and bartender Ethylbert, the relaxed atmosphere provides just the spark Casey needs to see the facts from a fresh slant. Armed with flimsy yet crucial evidence, he’s off to put the squeeze on the real killer and blow the lid off an almost perfect crime.
