Horlicks: Did you know that there are imitations of Horlicks? They use skim milk and other inferior products. Insist on only the original and genuine article. Now let’s see what’s happening down in Pine Ridge.
Lum has left his job working for Abner at the Jot ‘Em Down Store to take on the role of president in Squire Skimp’s new business venture. Left to run the store alone, Abner is swamped with phone orders and having trouble getting deliveries out on time. Grandpap stops in, and Abner tries to recruit him to work in the store—but Grandpap drags his heels, preferring to chat about the latest high-society party in town. Lizabeth has her heart set on going, but attending requires an invitation. While Abner isn’t sure he cares for the fuss, the party seems to be all anyone can talk about.
When Cedric stops by, Abner hopes to hire him back instead. However, it turns out Cedric has bought into shares of an Arizona silver mine—along with half the town—which explains everyone’s sudden obsession with living a high-society lifestyle. Just as the source of the frenzy comes to light, Lum walks in and reveals that he is the mastermind selling the silver mine stock.
