Horlicks: A refreshing drink for all meals and occasions. Find it at your local druggist shop in natural or chocolate flavors.
Down in Pine Ridge, everyone is going crazy buying up Lum and Squire’s stock in the Arizona silver mine. Everyone, that is, except Abner Peabody and Dick Huddleston. As the duo chat in the store, they discuss the culture craze sweeping through town, including the arrival of Dr. Willoughby—a music teacher brought in by Squire. While Abner and Dick remain deeply skeptical, the rest of the town, including Abner’s wife Lizabeth, is completely sold on the mine stock, expecting to rake in big bucks before long. People are quitting their jobs and closing up shop to chase their dreams of high-society living.
Abner gets a phone call from Widow Simpson inviting him to a high-society party she’s hosting tonight. The two store owners talk about the weird orders for fancy foods they’ve been receiving lately. Soon, Grandpap Spears enters the store all dressed up in his fancy duds to show off his new look. Lum joins in to marvel at Grandpap’s suit and tries once more to pitch Abner on buying stock in the mine. Later, Abner speaks with Lizabeth, who uses her feminine wiles to convince him to buy a few shares after all.
