Two men dressed in traditional Hawaiian attire, Lum and Abner, are seen mid-dance in the center of a small store. Lum, on the left, is playing a ukulele while Abner on the right is swaying his hips and waving his arms. A small crowd is gathered around them, some clapping and others smiling. The store itself is cluttered with various items, including shelves of canned goods and hanging clothes, giving it a cozy and lived-in feel.

The get-rich-quick craze has swept through Pine Ridge, and dreams of high society are all anyone can talk about. Lum attempts to school a skeptical Abner on proper manners and the finer points of high-society etiquette. Will Abner manage to fit in with the tea party crowd? Lum excitedly recount the recent party, while Abner shares how disappointed Lizabeth was to miss it.

As it turns out, this exclusive club is meant strictly for millionaires—and, of course, anyone holding enough silver mine stock. Lum explains how Squire got into the silver mining business: Squire owns the mine, while Lum receives a 10% commission plus benefits on any stock he has purchased himself. Lum reassures Abner that his stock purchase will eventually secure his place in high society. Though Abner remains reluctant, a phone call from Lizabeth leaves him dragged into high-society life whether he likes it or not.

Horlick’s: A listener letter details her success feeding Horlicks to her baby, with announcer Carlton Bricker adding the endorsement of the medical profession.
