Rochester is busy cleaning up after the previous night’s party with the help of his friend Roy. Amidst discussions about the Colemans and Rochester potentially marrying his gal Suzy, the conversation inevitably turns to Jack’s legendary frugality.

Polly (Mary’s made) stops by to chat with Jack and Roy before Bob Crosby pops in on a personal matter—asking if Jack will help out with a guessing game on Bob’s other program. Soon after, Rochester returns with the mail (though eagle-eyed listeners might notice the audio skipping a bit here). In a shocking twist, Jack actually displays a hint of generosity by paying Roy for his time, leaving Rochester completely stunned!

As Jack prepares to practice his violin, he receives a call from a public phone booth. Don Wilson is on the line, accompanied by the Sportsmen, who treat everyone to a rendition of “Lady-O.” While tuning up his violin for practice, Jack snaps a string and needs to find a replacement. With the Maxwell broken down, he takes a walk on foot, greeting colorful characters along the way—including a French nursemaid and a baby—though they remain skeptical when Jack promises to get them into the movies.

Arriving at the music store, Jack ponders where he would be without his success in radio and television. Between picking up his violin string and browsing for new records, Frank Nelson is on hand to give Jack a hard time trying to make his sale.
