Down in Pine Ridge, the partnership of Lum and Abner is no more. Lum has taken full control of the movie theater, while Abner now runs the Jot ‘Em Down Store on his own. When a phone call comes in inquiring about the night’s showtimes, Abner announces over the party line that the partnership has been dissolved—instructing everyone to direct movie questions to Lum before taking a moment to plug a few store specials.
Abner shares his ambitious plans for the store with Cedric and outlines his new duties as clerk. To teach him proper customer service, Abner tries to role-play with Cedric, but confusion quickly ensues when Abner pretends to be the customer. When they swap roles and make Cedric the customer, the exercise devolves into a game of “guess who”—until Dick Huttleston drops by to put an end to the fun and hear about the fallout between Lum and Abner.
