Down in Pine Ridge, Squire Skimp is claiming to suffer great pains following an accident at Lum’s movie house. Lum discusses the situation with Grandpap, who reveals that the doctor found nothing physically wrong with Squire. While Grandpap has little love for Squire, he still sympathizes with his predicament as they both ponder whether Squire has truly changed his sneaky ways.
Meanwhile, business at the grocery store is hopping. Cedric returns from an errand only to be sent right back out on a delivery, and Abner arrives late after previewing tonight’s movie features. Deciding to check on Squire’s health, the pair calls his house and speaks with his wife. She reports on his exaggerated agonies and drops a bombshell: Squire has headed to the county seat to consult a lawyer. Lum and Abner are left wondering what kind of trouble Squire is getting into—or more likely, what trouble he is planning for them.
