The Great Gildersleeve – Teacher’s Problems. ep252, 470521

A black-and-white photo showing two men (Leroy and Gildersleeve). Leroy is on the left and is playing a saxophone, appearing animated and expressive, while Gildersleeve is on the right and holds a script and gestures with a finger to his lips, as if telling Leroy to be quiet. The caption indicates a comedic scene, featuring "The Great Gildersleeve" character, associated with a comedy series announcement on WMAQ-NBC.

Marjorie and Leroy bicker while they’re supposed to be studying. Gildersleeve gets onto them for not concentrating enough. Leila Ransom arrives to invite Gildersleeve to see a movie with her. He only agrees as long as the children can finish their studies first. Gildy grills Leroy on his knowledge, and when he’s not thrilled with the results plans to visit his teacher in the morning.

The next morning Gildersleeve is not happy to find kids playing on recess so early. Will the classroom be ran with any better discipline? He confronts the teacher to find out why Leroy isn’t learning anything. The frustrated, frazzled and overworked teacher is rescued when the principal arrives.

Taking him to her office, Eve Goodwin lays it on the line with Gildersleeve’s. She describes the plight of her overworked staff. Expectations on teachers are high, and Eve describes how much they do on their meager pay. No one seems to care about education except the teachers. Has Gildy learned his lesson? Is there something he can do? He demands that Judge Hooker call an emergency meeting of the school board. He meets with the ladies club to rally the parents. Finally, Gildersleeve talks to the radio audience to encourage everyone to be concerned about what happens in the education system.
