Already in progress, Ma Barber interupts a discussion on the war. She puts aside her laundry to bring Henry and his friend a fresh piece of pie. Hazel and Cliff pop in out of the cold air, for a bite of lunch. Irene has been cooking up tasty and healthy treats to eat.

Ma tells about her ideals of being a good homemaker, and wants to share flowers from her garden with Irene. Paul is in uniform as he returns for a visit, and talks with the mechanically inclined Cliff. Cliff also shows off his knowledge of the spices nd herbs grown in the garden. What are all those herbs good for anyway?

Nick barges in with an emergency, but Paul points out the harmless truth behind the bloody mess. With the family all together, Nick grills the group on the benefits of the sponsor, Fleischman’s Yeast.
