Lum and Abner – Grandpap Shops for Souvenirs. 480914

Two men dressed in traditional Hawaiian attire, Lum and Abner, are seen mid-dance in the center of a small store. Lum, on the left, is playing a ukulele while Abner on the right is swaying his hips and waving his arms. A small crowd is gathered around them, some clapping and others smiling. The store itself is cluttered with various items, including shelves of canned goods and hanging clothes, giving it a cozy and lived-in feel.

As the gang roll into Alber-QQ, as Abner puts it, Grandpap wants to pick up an indian blanket to send home to Charity. As Cedric goes off to find post cards, Grandpap realizes he doesn’t know how to speak the indian lingo. Lum figures the local indians ought to understand Spanish, so Grandpap goes to buy a book on it.

Returning to Abner’s limosine, Grandpap doesn’t have the book, but memorized a few keywords that ought to do the trick. He approaches the scrawny indian to do business, only to find a surprise.

Ben Withers tells how he hitchhiked, and still went the wrong direction. He’s selling blankets to make money to buy a bus ticket back to Mt Ida. Abner tries to help him out, but somehow it doesn’t quite work out as expected.
