In a lonely farm house, a woman makes a call for the sheriff. Gunshots end the call, and Sheriff Ross arrives too late. Jase Pearson is on the scene of the fresh crime. Robbery doesn’t seem to be the motive for the murder. Are some of the clues too convenient? Jase thinks something fishy sis going on.

Heading out on horseback, the lawmen set out. Has the killer made a clean break? Walter Denine seems distraught over his wife’s murder. Can he offer some insight for the cops to go on? Any enemies, rivals, or reasons for revenge? Or could he have actually done the killing?

Jase tracks down discrepancies in the clues. Motives point to a healthy life insurance payout. Is Walter’s alibi airtight? jase is sure of his man, but is there a way to shake it up? The chase may lead to gunplay, but Jase needs his killer taken alive. Saddle up and ride along with the posse as they make a stand against the killer.
