Lum and Abner – Squire’s Crooked Storekeeping Tactics. 480820

Two men dressed in traditional Hawaiian attire, Lum and Abner, are seen mid-dance in the center of a small store. Lum, on the left, is playing a ukulele while Abner on the right is swaying his hips and waving his arms. A small crowd is gathered around them, some clapping and others smiling. The store itself is cluttered with various items, including shelves of canned goods and hanging clothes, giving it a cozy and lived-in feel.

Visiting Dick Huddleston, Lum shares some of his concern over Squire’s business practice. Is he using fair scales to weigh out orders? Abner enters, but will he learn about the secret fussing and fighting going on between Lum and Squire?

Changing the topic as Abner enters, we find that Squire will handle auctioning off the rest of Abner’s property. Abner gets confused at what a voice box is, and what it’s for. Do words come out like sending telegrams? Abner doesn’t seem to have to think to fill the air with words.

When Lum leaves, Dick and Abner talk about the plight that Lum is facing with Squire as his Partner. Can Abner buy his part in the store back?
