The insurance company has paid off quickly on Abner’s loss of the worthless property he bought from Squire. At this rate, it’ll take him forever to blow all his money, and win his inheritance. He can’t tell his friends why he needs to spend his money though.

Ben Withers enters to talk about the happenings with his friends from Mt Ida. He marvels at a trombone player, and why he had to drop out of the band. Will Ben have any idea of how to get rid of Abner’s $1500 windfall from the insurance claim?

Fortune falls into Abner’s lap when grandpap enters to tell about the back taxes he owes on his swampland. The $1500 is more than enough to cure grandpap’s worries, but the dollar signs get Squire’s attention. is there some value to the land that Squire doesn’t know about? He outbids Abner, and steals the deal.
