It’s midnight on the third night in the graveyard known as the City of the Dead. Captain Friday reviews some of the events thus far, particularly how Phillus grandfather Theodore Beverly had left a fortune in black pearls, and now a murderous treasure hunt has begun. Someone in the cast of characters is the thief and killer, but who? All have their suspicious traits, and all seem to have been injured by the mysterious grave robber. Who is old Clawfoot, and is he actually a danger to our little band of characters?
A skeleton is the symbol of warning that hints that Theodore doesn’t lie in the grave with his name on it., The bones begin to show another grave as a focal point. Young Parker and Captain Friday follow the trail of bones. Where will it lead? What mysterious messages from the grave will they reveal?
In the darkness of night, Parker and Friday walk through the cemetary. They don’t quite trust each other, and speculate on what they might find at the end of the trail of bones. What’s that noise? Is the grave robber digging up another grave? Who is it? Has Friday identified the person? Are dangers looming near at hand for Phillus and Doc Tuner? Clawfoot is on the prowl, and the mayor is missing!
