When an abandoned baby is brought to the hospital, the staff adopt the malnourished infant as they administer care to keep him in good health. Jack Webb makes an appearance as a police detective who is in search of the missing mom. The skeptical cop is less than optimistic, thinking that the mom didn’t care enough to keep her baby, why should she want him back? Riley, the no nonsense cop calls the doctors to the scene where the mom was last known to be living. What will they find in the trashy, low rent apartment? Will the doctors change their minds when they see the poor living conditions? Has the cop sold short the chances of human nature to rise above its surroundings?
Riley phones in a disturbing message that the mom has been pulled out of the river. There’s still life in her, but can Kildare get to her in time? The doc may be able to save her life, but she still has to face the same low quality of life, and struggle to take care of her baby.
What can mend a broken hearted mom? What will it take to thaw Riley’s heart? Whatever it is, Riley and the young mom find it, and hope springs eternal. A new life begins for baby, mom, and a tough, synical cop.
