It’s Abner’s turn to take the witness stand again, and Lum is still worried about his honest reputation. Can Abner work in a good word for Lum to put him in a good light again? Their lawyer is missing, and hints are made that Mr Walford is delayed, due to his visit to the race track.
As Lum and Abner are sure they’ve all but lost the case, Doc Withers enters. Does he have news on the courthouse proceedings? How’s things going back at the store? Doc gets confused as topics jump from the store, to fleas, to the missing lawyer.
The confusion over backwards jumping fleas and Lum’s old Edwards sayings grows. Is there going to be a point? Only to draw Abner into the confusion. Lawyer Walford finally enters with good news, that the trial has been postponed.
