Dr. Kildare – Lead Poisoning. ep20, 500608

A photograph of a doctor wearing a stethoscope around their neck, standing against a plain background. The doctor is wearing a white lab coat and a serious expression on their face, as if listening intently to something. The stethoscope is draped over the doctor's shoulders and resting on their chest, and their hands are folded in front of them. The overall effect is one of professionalism and medical expertise.

Doctor Kildare is absent from Blaire General hospital, and Coc Gillespie knows where to go to find him. With both medical men absent, Doctor Carew goes to round them up and corral them back to their jobs, but he’s a little mistaken on who lead who astray. Getting down to business we find Mr Mallory, and his medical ailments. Listen to the symptoms, and make your diagnosis of the house painter. Of course, you could take the easy way out and read the show title to know that he has lead poisoning. What will the doctors do about curing Mr Mallory?

First, they go to his boss to encourage him to take better preventive measures for a safe work environment. As for Mallory himself, the treatment is fairly simple, just a good change to his diet to flush out the lead from his system.

Since the poisoning came about from chronic exposure, the real cure is in convincing the construction foreman in using safeguards for his men, and not being so caught up in his deadline in getting his job done. Will the busy boss listen, or will Kildare and Gillespie have to get rough and call in the state board of health? The two doctors are giving access to the job site, and they review whether any corners are being cut. Things seem OK, so the problem is in how Mallory, and his co-worker Watson became affected. It seems to be related to being on rush jobs. Join in to see how Kilare discovers the cause, and what he can do about it.
