Another Amos and Andy double feature.

First show: Annual Minstrel Show At Lodge. 12-04-1936. A stage show done in vaudeville style. Andy opens with a humorous story about chickens. The Mystic Knights of the Sea quartet sings, Sing Baby Sing. Kingfish talks about his mother in law. Frank Parker, the tenor from early Jack Benny shows, sings, Mandy. Amos, Andy, Kingfish, and Lightning put on a Western drama about a gunfight. Amos talks with emcee, Bill Haily, about his in laws. The quartet, with lead vocal part by Kingfish, returns to sing, Dinah. Andy wants his chance to sing, and shows how low he can get by singing the chorus of, Many Brave Men are Asleep in the Deep. After a curtain call, Amos and Andy say a few parting words.

Second show: Three Strikes And You’re Out. 02-11-1944. Amos and Kingfish fill Andy in on the events of last nights lodge meeting that he missed. They convince Andy to adopt a soldier to support the war effort. He does, but little does he know that his soldier is a female, so she is a bit taken aback by Andy’s offer of cigars, and shaving cream, and the like when he writes a letter.

The soldier is able to take a furlough, and wants to meet Andy, but doesn’t let on that she isn’t a man. Andy tries to set up a double date for his imagined male soldier, but has to deal with juggling dates of his own. I see some problems, and mix ups coming on.

Meanwhile, Kingfish is going to help out by distracting Andy’s new gal, while he gets the soldier hooked up with another gal for a date. Kingfish phones home to give an excuse to his wife, Sapphire. What a set up for some explosive events. The distrusting Sapphire, goes to the lodge and confronts Kingfish with the woman he was meeting, intended for the soldiers date. Strike one.

Next, he goes to the restaurant where Andy has had to step out on his date. While entertaining the gal, the VanPorters see Kingfish, and get the wrong idea. Sapphire gets wind of it, of course. Strike two.

The soldier hasn’t showed up yet, but is supposed to meet up with Lightning, who will then give a call to Kingfish to let him know. The call from the female soldier comes in, and Sapphire answers the phone. Strike Three.

Poor little old Kingfish.
