Checking on a bank error, Fibber’s phone call is momentarily directed to Mirt, who has a brother that has trouble shooting his mouth off. Mr Wellington the theater manager pops in to be teased by Fibber. He lets the McGee’s know they won $60 from a drawing in a promotion at the theater. Billy Mills plays, American Patrol.
Dreaming of his winnings, and that the war will be over soon,Fibber wants to buy a car, but Molly is more practical in suggesting he buy war bonds. Miss Crenshaw from Wellington’s office delivers the prize, but deducts a few dollars for damages done by Fibber at the theater. Doc Gamble is next to visit, and hear about the prize that now amounts to $50. Fibber insists the war is nearly over, and feels free to spend his winnings. Doc joins Molly in setting him straight. Fibber is amazed at the things that are made from soy beans these days. Harlowe Wilcox interupts the talk about inventions to tell about a dog, and of course, the sponsor product.
Alice Darling enters to tell that she’s getting a war bond for those on her Christmas list, and to tell how things are going at the defense plant. The Kingsmen sing an American Medley.
Mayor Latrivia shows up looking sharp in his Coast Guard uniform. He tells about his duties to serve, and again has to set Fibber straight on thinking the war will end soon. The McGees get confused, and Latrivia gets flustered over misunderstood words. In the end, it turns out Fibber lost a bet to the mayor, and he gets a taste of a real soy bean invention.
