Jack Benny – Algiers. 431024

Jack Benny and Mary Livingstone on the set of their radio show in 1942.

Don flashes back to a few weeks ago on the train ride from the East Coast back to California. Jack reads through the reviews to see if anybody in the media has noticed his return from his USO tour. A couple porters talk with Rochester, and partake in a friendly game of craps.

Jack can’t get any takers on a game of Gin Rummy, so he and Mary head to the diner car. Minirva Pious is a fellow diner, and John Brown is the waiter. Both are voice actors from the Fred Allen show, temporarily off the air. The running gag about Cpl Crowley returns. Jack even tries to hit up a kid for a game of cards, but with no luck he goes to bed.

Jack’s snoring seem to be keeping Phil and Dennis awake. Dennis sings, I Heard You
Cry Last Night. When Jack is interviewed by another reporter, he goes into flashback and voice over to tell the story of his time in Algiers. Jack’s French accent needs work, but he has fun with it. As the other woman, and meeting Jack in the Cazbar, Minirva Pious makes another return.
