A constant problem of schools is the overcrowded classroom. Miss Brooks and Walter Denton discuss the overcrowding as they rearrange the desks to try to make more room. As they brainstorm ideas to share classroom space, a set of 8 year old twins enter, and declare their intentions to start high school. Miss Brooks tries to talk sense to them, but they are only sharing their first names and age. From their slang and attitude, the wisecracking kids seem to have been educated by radio and movies.
When the cops are called to send the kids home, they turn on the tears and claim to be from an orphanage. Connie’s mothering instincts kick in an she shares her lunch with the twin orphans.
Meanwhile in Principle Conklin’s office, the cop has arrived and mentions some family trouble he has. When he goes for the boys, more secrets emerge. The boys are actually his own sons, but some blackmailing goes down, and dad lets the kids keep up their act.
In the cafeteria, Connie talks with Mr Boynton. They compare notes on the two boys, and their tragic stories only get worse, and more heartbreaking. Even Conklin is tenderhearted, and is willing to adopt the twins.
The gang make a plan to adopt the kids to keep them from the imaginary orphanage.
They make a plan to adopt the kids to keep them from going back to the orphanage. The desperate Connie claims to be their mom. And the comedy comes to a boil when all the guys each claim to be the father.
The truth can’t be kept in anymore, and kids and dad break the truth, but there’s still some explaining to do. In a final scene, we find out that some real justice is done for the grief the kids put our gang through
Note: I’m not sure if this the right date for the episode, but it’s always a good day for our favorite high school English teacher.
