Abigail Uppington gives it her best shot, even Mirt the operator gets in a joke that Molly thinks ought to be rationed instead.
Everybody but Fibber gets it, that the gas rationg isn’t about fuel shortages, but about conserving rubber. Teeny tries to educate him, and shares how her dad is an engineer who is away to desicate a new radio to the NBC network. Or is dedicate the right word? The Kingsmen sing, Yeah Man.
Wallace Wimplereads a poem about football, and tell the latest about his big old wife Sweetie Face. After we’re fully indoctrinated to doing our national duty, Fibber finally gets it. Also after a final showing from Mayor Latrivia. A mixture of jokes, and tribute to his pride in his upcoming service to the country. Fibber salutes the many behind the scenes folks who have already left the show to enlist in the military.
Note: In coming months, even Bill Thompson, the voice of Wallace Wimple, the Old Timer, and various other characters would also enlist. Both would safely return about 3 years later to resume where they left off.
