Jack Benny – Thanksgiving Dinner. ep862, 531129

Jack Benny and Mary Livingstone. in 1954.
Jack and Mary in 1954.

Don rolls the clock back to last Thursday, and we join Jack and Rochester as they inventory the pantry. When Mary visits, Jack falls off his stool. Everything seems fine… no harm done. Jokes about Bob Crosby’s band are made when he phones in. As the inventory continues, we learn more about the things Jack has in stock Don and the Sportsmen drop in, and sing a sponsor flared version of, Thanks Again.

Seeing Don out, we learn how the Sportsmen met, and formed their group. Rochester and Mary continue the revealing inventory as Dennis Day pops in. With a need for an important phone call, and to share secrets about his mom. Mel Blanc phones in as himself to complain about the parts he gets, one of which being an English horse. Dennis sings, Like the Tide.

There’s one thing missing from the pantry, so Jack takes Mary to pick up a turkey. Along the way they toss a football with a neighbor kid. The supermarket has Mr Kitzel working in the meat department. Jack begins to get sentimental over the dead turkeys in the freezer. Maybe a live turkey, instead of the dead ones will soothe Jack’s mind?
