Sailing off the coast of Southeast China, Philip Carney threads his way up the river port where Red Gallagher delivers a woman to him. The pretty, young Asian gal has a note that offers help to Carney in keeping his voyage safely going. The girl is to escort him to the home of the man who can help.
They soon arrive at the office of Kang and Son. Carney and Gallagher are introduced to a couple of executive types to talk about the business behind the voyage. A note was palmed off to Philip, but what will it mean? Returning to the Scarlet Queen, Red and Carney take care of intruders on the ship. After reading the note, and making their connection with their man, Pine, they now find the Scarlet Queen all decked out in fancy lantern, and the girl has also returned. She claims to be at his service as a servant and companion. Philip tries to pay off Anna May Lamour, and get rid of her, but she won’t be sent away so easily.
Carney begins to worry that he may have mesed up the deal in town, but Gallagher seems to have ditched Anna May. Kang’s agent in town is worried as he delivers some instructions for Philip to take on some armament and weaponry for their next adventure. Just then, Carney notices that the Scarlet Queen has been set adrift. Who is this new man on deck? His judo moves make short work of both Red and Philip.
When they wake up, and nurse their wounds, the Scarlet Queen is navigating the jungle river. With threatening jungle indians around the ship, Carney’s day is brightened when Anna May is on hand to tend to his needs. She earns her pay when she takes Carney and Red to the office of Max Thorn, the contact that was originally supposed to be made. The office is found in disarray. A double cross shows itself, and Carney seems to have been outsmarted. His voyage has been stopped, and the Scarlet Queen is up the river, standing by to be dismantled and scuttled.
Can Carney get the upperhand back? Will he be able to overthrow the plans of his enemies? Thanks to Anna May, and dedication, Carney is reunited with Red and the Scarlet Queen.
Payoff time for Anna May is coming, what might she want out of Carney? When Anna even delivers the instructions from Kang, Carney’s debt to her may be too high for him to pay. To Carney’s amazement, and Red’s amusement, her high price is a great relief for the ship captain.
Once again the Scarlet Queen is free to set sail towards the next adventure.
