Phil Harris – Spring Cleaning. ep101, 490501.

For the past few days the Harris home has been under the affects of Spring cleaning, and though Phil has insisted on helping, Alice has tried to keep him busy elsewhere. Why on earth would she do that?

As Phil helps to hang a picture, he hits his thumb, falls off a chair, knocks down a mess of plaster, and is now in dread of bleeding to death. He seems to make a pretty fair recovery when Alice says she’ll handle it herself. The girls pitch in with a few comments before Alice shoos them away, and tries to get rid of Phil.

Willie is on hand to tease Phil about his handy man expertise, or lack thereof, but can Willie do any better? Phil is feeling low and rejected, and he threatens to spend the night at his club… if he had one. On a parting note, Alice sings to him, In Love With a Wonderful Guy.

With a song like that, Phil just can’t leave. As the two smooch, they are interrupted by a visit from Remley. The loving mood doesn’t get Phil off the hook at cleaning up his own mess that he made earlier though. Phil becomes inspired to do an extra chore to make Alice even more proud of him, and he recruits Remley to help clean the fireplace and chimney.

Seeing their chance to pull a fast one on Willie, they lure him to the roof and he ends up being a human swab for cleaning the flue. When Willie gets stuck, Phil takes his time and first sings, Tennessee Square Dance.

when Willie is out of reach, Phil has a run of luck when Julius arrives. The street smart kid is rightly wary of Phil, but helps for Willie’s sake. The traffic jam in the chimney breaks free and the soot covered adults fall out the bottom of the fire place.

Alice has a cow when she spots her soot covered rug. Will Phil’s excuse at rehearsing for a blackface routine calm her down? After some entertaining spoofs, she isn’t about to be deterred, but if Phil knows what’s good for him, he and Frankie will beat feet for the nearest foreign legion recruiter.
