Jack Benny – A Sad Soldier Is Discharged. 460331

At March Field, and as March ends, Jack pokes fun at the military with the use of animal jokes. Mary shifts gears with jokes about dating soldiers. The base trains pilots on the P38, and the jokes about it brings Phil out to make fun of military acronyms. Jack is bothered by a soldier on the front row who hasn’t laughed at any jokes yet. It’s Mel Blanc, and he’s upset at being discharged soon. Rochester phones in to tell about his delay in getting to the base. Phil has his band number snipped.

The sad soldier is forced to leave, but not until he’s heard the commercial. Dennis Day enters to tell Jack what his mother thinks of the show. A girl claiming to be Phil’s daughter phones in to remind him about Alice’s birthday. Rochester is lost again, and that sad soldier gets in a few more words.

Dennis sings a song dedicated to a war hero named Roger Young. A salute to the things our young men have fought and died for during the war. I think it gets snipped a little bit.
