In the living room in the small house halfway up the next block, we find Vic and Sade involved in a round of Rummy. Vic keeps a watchful eye on the game play, marvelling at Sade's sloppy habits of throwing away good cards, and forgetting whose turn it is. Russel enters for distractions to the game when he talks about his 60 pairs of pants.

Bud and Lou joke around about the news, and running a newspaper. Lou claims to be a great reporter. Sounds more like a peeping Tom to me though. Ken Niles even hops on the band wagon of offering news on animals. The jokes turn to good looks, or lack of them when Verna Felton shows up. Bud wants to make her fashion editer of his newspaper. Lou goes for the big headlines, world news. He phones Adolf Hitler himself, and Mel Blanc comes back with a passable, and funny, impression of that national leader. Freddie Rich plays, I Love You.

Gracie drops her big news to George. The build up makes it sound like she might be having a baby, but instead she has just hired anew maid. The maid claims that she can't talk and work, so as Gracie does the chores, the maid gossips about her other Hollywood clients. Seeing that no dinner is going to be forthcoming, George leaves to eat out. Jimmy Cash sings, I'll Get By.

Jenkins is a little, dried up, old man who delivers a letter, but it hasn't come from the person it was addressed by. Archie seems to have been set on a wild goose chase. Has it all been a ruse to get Archie on the scene to witness a crime?

Like every other town in the World War 2 era, Summerfield is in a big war bond drive. Gildersleeve and the whole family are doing all they can in support of the war effort. Marjorie is taking part in a theatrical group, Gildy is on the war bond committee, and he questions her about her play. She is a little star struck after her director has been praising her abilities. Birdie is a little upset that she won't eat, and Leroy is relentless in his teasing of her that Marjorie flees to her room.
