It seems that all of the holy land is on the move, responding to an edict from Rome to register for the tax. Joseph talks with fellow traveler, Abraham, and we learn more about the tax, and the expectation of a coming Messiah. Has God deserted his people? We see a portrayal of the kindness of Joseph, as he deals with his fellow travelers.

Elsewhere, at the inn, we get a glimpse of the busy and hectic lives of the innkeeper and his wife with all the traveler on the road. Is it so unreasonable to want to close up, and lock the doors for the night? When Joseph arrives. He is going to be sent away for lack of a room, but the wife of the innkeeper sees to it that the young travelers are at least given room in the stable.

The night is like any other, except for the star. Shepherds on a hillside are told by an angel about the birth, and soon appear to see for themselves. The opened heavens tell a message of peace, and good will. What will Mary and Joseph think of the worship shown by the humble shepherds?
