The reign of Franz Joseph, in the year 1801. Loyal subjects pass before the king’s court in Vienna. For the good of the crown, and the happiness of the king, a marriage is to be arranged, or at least A for the destiny of an heir. What if the king should find love instead? That would complicate matters. love begins to grow, but unknown to the humble village girl, she has met Arch Duke Rudolf. The Arch Duke is especially smitten when Mayerling likes him for himself, and not for his title.

Secrets can’t be held forever. Will Mayerling be threatened if she won’t give up her true love? Will Rudolf’s best friend remain on the run? The world celebrates, though Rudolf is in a dark mood. When Mayerrling returns, Rudolf is faced with the complications his future as Emperor holds. Though he’d rather do anything else, he tells Mayerling that she has to go away. Will she understand? Will an appeal to his father, the Emperor grant him permission to marry?

Mayerling still holds a place in his heart, and at the royal ball. If the lovers can’t have their way in life, they decide to end life in tragedy, and a suicide pact.
