Down in Pine Ridge Squire is busy drilling for oil on Abner’s land, after getting a contract for oil rights. Though Lum and Abner know it’s a fake, and even Squire knows it’s a fake, it hasn’t stopped Squire from selling oil stock to everybody in town for a part of the riches. As Lum and Abner talk about the situation, grandpap enters to talk about the weather.
Lum decides to put an end to his movie productions, since there’s no market in silent pictures anymore. Grandpap lets the guys know that the acting contracts that Squire signed on the townsfolk are designed to be paid for based on the whole job. It doesn’t matter if the film project is cancelled or not. Or if the film goes to market or not.
Grandpap talks about Mose Moose, and his newborn boy. Lum tries to tell Abner about the saying of ‘Pretty is as pretty does.’ but Abner doesn’t quite grasp the saying. The argument between friends is brought short when Squire comes into the store. Squire has some legal documents to discuss with Lum. He is going to force Lum to pay the salaries of all his actores.
