Now let’s see what’s happening down in Pine Ridge. Abner had gotten himself into trouble when he was caught trying to take a letter from Squire’s house. Last episode Squire let him off the hook if he would sign a contract, which he did. Today Lum talks with Abner about the poor judgement he had to sign a contract without reading it.
Lum reads their copy wich reads as a confession to stealing the letter, breaking and entering, and taking blame for Squire’s injuries in the movie theater. It puts Abner in line to take the full blame for all their troubles.
Abner gets confused at Lums figure of speech when Lum tells him that he should look before he leaps. Their talking is interupted when a stranger visits. It’s Mr Ferguson, their lawyer.
Though Abner tries to stop him, Lum talks to him about the details of the case thus far. The lawyer thinks he has a good chance at winning the case. Abner finally gets his chance to talk once the lawyer leaves, and tells Lum that he wasn’t really Mr Ferguson, but Squire Skimps lawyer, and the case he thought he could win was Squires.
