Now, let’s see whats happening in Pine Ridge. Previously, the circus was sold to Squire Skimp. They have since learned that Squire already had deals made to sell the circus off for even more cash, and profits than he had offered to Lum and Abner.
Today, Lum, Dick, and Grandpap talk about their potential loss as they settle up on debts. The lesson to be learned is that you just can’t trust Squire Skimp. Abner phones in because he’s too afraid about his recent dealings at the circus. It turns out it was Abner who had taken the cash from the safe in earlier days.
It isn’t known why he did, but because he did hide the money, he managed to save that cash from being lost in dirty deals later. Milfred Speers, also known as grandpap, convinces Abner to come to the store and be forgiven.
It also has turned out that Zenora, Lum’s love interest in the circus, was involved in stealing from the circus. Ha! I thought so! It was Abner who saw through the plot, and had the better judgement in the situation.
As Dick and Grandpap talk, more details of the recent week are reviewed. Despite all the convincing to get Abner to the store, he’s so afraid of Lum, he turns and runs out the plate glass window.
