Horlicks: the sponsor asks: Low-cost products are out there, but is cutting quality worth the pennies saved? Accept no less than the original and genuine Horlicks Malted Milk.
Down in Pine Ridge, Squire and Lum have been selling silver mine stock and making grand plans for exclusive country clubs reserved strictly for stockholders and future millionaires. High-society fever has swept the town, and nearly everyone has gone all in on the trend.
When Lum and Abner catch up, it seems Dick Huddleston and Abner are the only two people left in Pine Ridge who are still doing any actual work. The friends discuss country clubs and upper-crust living, though Abner remains entirely unconvinced of the high life’s appeal. He finds himself a bit confused by Lum’s terms—and isn’t even sure what a clubhouse is supposed to be. Lum tries to explain the game of bridge, detailing the card jargon, bidding strategies, and endless arguments that go along with it.
Then, a scandal breaks out right on the main street: two women are spotted riding bicycles while wearing shorts! Who could be doing such a scandalous thing? None other than Lizabeth and Pearl—Abner’s own wife and daughter!
Horlick’sTestimonial: A mother writes in to share how her baby was unable to nurse, but Horlicks saved the day and helped her child grow into a fine, healthy girl.
