On the dark and gritty streets, shady characters gather in a hideout. Following a recent bank robbery and murder, a gangster and his girlfriend find themselves at the mercy of a dive owner named Creepy, who demands exorbitant rates for their stay. Driven past his limit by the old man’s extortion, the gangster decides to end the mistreatment and seek a new hideout—a classic case of criminals committing crimes against criminals.
When the old man turns up dead, the police begin connecting the dots between the hideout and the fleeing gangster. Casey and Ann gather key details that give a clearer picture of the local underworld. Armed with new information, Casey hits the streets to ask questions. At the Blue Note, Casey and Ann consult Ethelbert to see what he might know. Two distinct traits of the gangster, Davis, stand out: a explosive temper when overcharged and a preference for neatly manicured nails. Both traits prove essential as Casey sets a trap, using his informants to expose the robbers and killers. Driven by greed and fraught with danger, the investigation quickly reaches a boiling point when gunplay enters the picture.
