Performing live for the troops at Camp Roberts, Dr. Watson recounts a grim tale of murder in wax. In a flashback, we join Sherlock Holmes as he gathers details from the police. Through another flashback, we hear a young man describe the horrific moment his girlfriend, Bessie, was stabbed—the first in a string of ten similar crimes pointing to a serial killer.
While others are overwhelmed by the sheer scale of the spree, Holmes focuses on obscure clues and begins investigating. What does a residue of colored wax signify? Watson suggests a theatrical connection, but at Holmes’s recommendation, the investigation turns toward wax museums. There, they discover a comprehensive display of infamous killers—including several criminals from the great detective’s past cases.
The museum offers a cash reward for anyone brave enough to spend the night in its chamber of horrors as a publicity stunt. Suspecting something far more sinister is at play, Holmes sets a trap for the killer. Keying in on a crucial play on words and names, he disguises himself as Watson, arms himself, and prepares to stay overnight in the museum.
What danger awaits in the dark? And will Watson arrive in time if his friend needs help?
