Pioneers faced many dangers that combined to fill their lives with hardship, but it was the Lone Ranger—more than any other man—who made the West a safe place to live.
A 9-year-old set of twins watch their dad handle the horses on his ranch. As the children talk, we learn about the hardships and rivalries he faces. When horses are culled from the herd, their favorite pet horse is slated to be sold. The disappointed kids appeal to their father, but will he listen?
If this sounds like the story behind My Friend Flicka, you’re not far off! But whereas that dad caved in and gave his son a chance, this dad sells the horse anyway—bummer. Shortly after, Mom comes in to burst Dad’s bubble with news that the twins are missing.
The kids have run off into the wild prairie to try and get their pet horse, Toby, back—completely unaware of the hazards awaiting them, including harsh terrain and an impending storm. The Lone Ranger and Tonto manage to arrive just in the nick of time, but our story is far from over.
Will the kids get their horse back? Will the rancher let them keep it? Can they survive the brewing thunderstorm? With sick kids, doctors, a washed-out bridge, and a desperate race against time, the Lone Ranger saves the day in grand style—but you’ll definitely want to ride along for the plot twists and lessons learned along the way!
