They want to have a fancy place like all the newfangled department stores have. Abner is concerned that with all the new additions they won’t have any money left for merchandise.

Dick Huttleston comes by with some mail, and to chat about Squire Skimp, Lum gets a letter that turns out to be a chain letter. Grandpap stops in to tell how Squire is upset at Lum and Abner. It also explains the nice behavior of Squire at the close of the previous show.
