it’s Saturday night, in time for the Jolly boys to get together. Gildy complements his friends on being in high form, then the barbershop quartet things another. The Jolly boys all go home, but Gildersleeve is awakened by a phone call in the middle of the night. It’s Mrs. Peavey. Her husband hasn’t made it home yet. Should someone call the police?

The commotion has Leroy and Marjorie awake. Seeing the lights on, Mrs. Ransom comes over. Should they be worried that there has been foul play? The chief of police has not appeared yet, so Deputy Gildersleeve has arrange for his other Jolly boys to join in the search. When the chief arrives, he calms everyone down and lets them know what he’s turned up.

The Jolly boys call a special meeting. They speculate over the reasons why he has left town. Has enough been done to find Peavey? Can they take care of business and still have time to play little poker? The group goes to visit Mrs. Peavey. They offer their condolences. Will they ever see their friend again? In epilogue, Gildersleeve gets a postcard that reveals the mystery.
