On Stage – An Ideal Couple. ep24, 530618

A black and white photograph of Elliott Lewis, a man in a suit and tie, standing in front of a microphone with headphones on. He appears to be speaking or reading from a script, with one hand raised to emphasize a point. The background is dark and nondescript, with no discernible details.

Cathy and Elliot Lewis play, Mr. and Mrs. Johnson, a couple who appear on a radio game show. If they prove to be the ideal couple, and that they are happy though married, they stand to win tons of cool prizes. The perky and upbeat radio host picks their brains about their first date, and early years. we even eavesdrop on a few flashbacks to see for ourselves. Listen in and relive the highlights of their long romance. It hasn’t all been smooth sailing, and the listener is privy to at least a moment of argument along the line.

There’s still a matter of a few more questions to answer before the prizes are brought out. How does the perfect couple spend vacations, raise kids, and plan for the future? Their flashbacks are more revealing than the ideal things they say on stage. But probably pretty realistic, and just as flawed as most of us could admit to as well. Maybe our happily married couple aren’t so happy Afterall, but probably as typical as anybody.
